Ian Tyson is a cowboy music legend.
His career stretches back to the folk scene of the 1960s when he and then-wife Sylvia formed the duo "Ian and Sylvia". His greatest hit, “Four Strong Winds,” brought critical acclaim and has been covered by both folk and country artists, including Bob Dylan, Judy Collins and Johnny Cash.
Back in 2013, i was lucky enough to be asked to photograph him for American Cowboy Magazine.
We met on a dusty ranch outside Colorado Springs at high noon
(not my exactly my ideal time to shoot but otherwise he was a generous and compelling subject)
many thanks to American Cowboy Magazine Editor-in-Chief Bob Welch who not only hired me and wrote the article but was also my lighting assistant and Ian's stand-in for the day.
His beautifully written original article can be found here
